Connells Point is a quiet peninsula reaching into the Georges River, with Connells Point Road running down its spine and houses stepping down sandstone slopes on either side towards the water. That layout makes for great views and some tricky drainage. St George Blocked Drains is a local referral service that connects you with licensed local drain plumbers we work with who cover Connells Point.
Why Connells Point drains block
Most homes here sit on sloping land, and many waterside houses are below the level of the street. Waste either runs downhill to a sewer line on the low side of the property or gets pumped uphill to reach the main. Both setups have weak points. Long runs to a lower sewer pass under gardens, paths and retaining walls, and pumped systems depend on a pump that can clog with wipes, fat or sanitary items.
The housing mix matters too. Connells Point has original postwar homes alongside large modern rebuilds. An older house may still run its first clay or earthenware line, with joints that have opened as the ground settled. Roots from the mature trees and gardens on the peninsula find those gaps and grow into mats that catch everything passing through. A new house on an old block can still be connected through a section of old pipe near the boundary.
Heavy rain is the other test. Water moves fast down the slopes, and leaf litter, mulch and soil wash into stormwater pits. If a pit or pipe is half full of sediment, the overflow ends up against the house or under it.
What clearing a blocked drain involves
The licensed drain plumbers we work with run a CCTV drain camera through the line to locate the blockage and show what caused it. Roots, grease and silt are cleared with jet blasting. If the footage shows a broken clay section under a driveway or garden, pipe relining can seal it from inside, which is usually far easier than cutting into sandstone.
Typical pricing: a standard clear runs $150 to $400, root clearing runs $250 to $600, and a camera inspection runs $249 to $600 on its own or $350 to $900 with jetting. Relining typically costs $3,000 to $8,000 or more. Every plumber quotes before starting.
Frequently asked questions
Every drain in the house is slow at once. What does that mean?
It usually means the main sewer line from the house is blocked, rather than a single fixture. On Connells Point's long downhill runs, roots at an old joint are a common cause. See our blocked sewer page for the signs.
We rebuilt recently. Why are we getting root blockages?
Rebuilds often reconnect to existing pipework near the boundary. If that section is old clay, roots can still get in. A camera inspection shows exactly where the old pipe starts.
Is it worth clearing stormwater before winter?
Yes. A clear and camera check in a dry spell costs far less than water damage after a heavy storm, especially on sloping blocks where water arrives quickly.
